Troy's Take
La Taguara is authentic Venezuelan, and people keep saying it has some of the best food around Madison. There are a couple locations. I hit East Washington.
I got an arepa with ground beef, Caribbean Venezuelan style cheese bites, and a cachapa with cochino frito (pork belly). The arepa was juicy and delicious. Sauce was great. Eating it in the car made a mess, but on a plate this would be ridiculous.
Cheese bites have a salty skin, not classic Wisconsin curd breading. Delicious. Cachapa is a cornmeal pancake with cheese. The pork belly had so much flavor. Cheese was a little thick for me and I usually like cachapas a tad sweeter, but the pork and cornmeal still slapped.
Lots of gluten free options because so much is cornmeal based. I overheard someone with celiac get a yes on options. All their other food looked incredible too. Highly recommend.
