La Taguara might have some of the best food in Madison

3502 E Washington Ave, Madison, WI

Supposedly this place has some of the best food you can get around Madison. La Taguara, authentic Venezuelan. I think there are two locations. Someone I randomly bumped into said it was the best food, so it was finally time.

What I ordered

Arepa with ground beef, Caribbean Venezuelan style cheese bites, and a cachapa with cochino frito (pork belly).

My thoughts on the food

That arepa was juicy and delicious. Sauce was great. All the meat fell out in the car because of how I was holding it, not because of the food. Typically I would eat this on a plate. Unbelievably good.

Cheese bites have a salty skin. Not classic cheese curd breading. Delicious. I said I was only going to have one. That did not happen.

Cachapa with pork belly. The pork had so much flavor. Cheese was a little thick and hard to pull apart compared to another cachapa I have had, and I usually like them a tad sweeter. Still does not taste bad. Cornmeal is good. Cannot get over that pork.

Lots of good gluten free options with Venezuelan food because they make a lot with cornmeal. I heard someone with celiac ask about options and get a yes.

The verdict

La Taguara on East Washington. Incredible Venezuelan food. If you have not had it, highly recommend. I wish I had the stomach to try everything. Go.
