This just took my number one burger spot in Madison. Settle Down Tavern on Pinckney Street, right downtown. First impression, this looked like a top contender.

I got the Jalapeno Hot Rod. Two smashed patties, and while they are on the grill they smash jalapenos and onions right into the patty. Potato bun, special burger sauce. It smells incredible.

This is a true smash burger. Patties smashed extremely thin, great seasoning, and that hint of spice in every bite. Not over the top, not basic, just really good. Add the ghost seasoning to your fries too.

About $18 for the burger and fries. Pet friendly, great patio, great vibes all around. Incredible burgers, incredible fries, incredible vibe. Go check it out.

Good to know

  • Get the Jalapeno Hot Rod. Two thin smashed patties with jalapenos and onions smashed right into the meat.
  • Add the ghost seasoning to your fries. Smoky, a little spicy, a little barbecue.
  • Burger and fries ran me about $18. Pet friendly bar with a good patio. Kitchen takes a break from 2:30 to 4 PM.
