Troy's Take
This is the number one wing spot in Wisconsin according to people in Wisconsin. Out of 2,146 comments on my post asking where to go, Chicken Licks was the most recommended place. After three pounds of wings, I get it.
The dry rub hit me first. The second I bit in I knew: the salt, the flavor, the seasoning crusted on perfectly gold. Phenomenal. Then the original wings with buffalo sauce, and holy hell. Saucy, caked on, heat that's not too mild and not face melting. The wings themselves were crispy outside, juicy inside, cooked flawlessly.
I hate blue cheese. I think it tastes like paint. Their homemade blue cheese is a different story and it paired perfectly with the original wings. I was planning to save some for my father-in-law and I couldn't stop.
Classic Wisconsin dive bar in what looks like a house off County Road N. Pool table in the corner, jukebox humming, already filling up at 11:30 on a weekday. If you're within an hour of Sun Prairie, make the drive.
