The Dog House Bar & Grill

Supposedly this is one of the best burgers in all of Wisconsin. I was told this place is an absolute sleeper. If you have never been to Mount Horeb, you have got to go. It is the Troll Capital of the World, and I was told their burgers are out of this world.

The vibe

The bar is small and has some great Wisconsin vibes, but the patio is pretty large. When it is nice out, there is a lot of seating outside.

What I ordered

• Bacon cheeseburger with onion rings on it
• Two slices of cheese: one Gouda, one ghost pepper
• Cajun fries

My thoughts on the food

I added the onion rings because I was feeling a little freaky. I went with ghost pepper cheese because they do not do jalapenos, and I really love jalapenos on my burger for the taste and the crunch. That ghost pepper cheese definitely has a kick, nothing I can not handle. I am really glad I went with it. If you do not like spice, do not add it.

Look at that bite. Cheesy, bacon, onions, everything. The bun is soft, the bacon is thick, and the cheese is perfectly melted on. I am a big fan of that bacon. The only thing I would change is for the patty to be browned a little bit more. That would add more of a salty kick and a crunch.

The Cajun fries are my absolute favorite. The seasoning is perfectly caked on. That is a thick, great Cajun seasoning. I wish they had a little more crunch on the outside, but they were in a to go box, so that could be the reason. Nonetheless, they are incredible.

Important and interesting info

• I spent about 20 bucks for the burger and fries when I went.
• It is a really big burger. The patty is huge. I usually go double bacon cheeseburger, and there was no chance I could have done a double with this patty.
• While you are there, check out the rest of Mount Horeb. Lots of cool places to stop, great restaurants and bars, and a lot of shops.

The verdict

The Dog House out in Mount Horeb has really good burgers, incredible Cajun fries, a great atmosphere and tons of outdoor seating. This place was really, really good, so go give it a try.
