Miyabi Sushi

There really haven't been great sushi options on the Verona-Fitchburg line. Miyabi Sushi opened on McKee by Target in the old Flying Hound spot, RIP, and I had to find out if this was the one.

I went opening weekend and the place was absolutely packed, so I got my order to go. The sushi itself made a pretty great first impression.

What I ordered

Pan-seared gyoza, rock shrimp, Sunset Glow rolls, and a spicy salmon roll. I get spicy salmon almost everywhere I review, so that was my baseline. The Sunset Glow has shrimp tempura, avocado, spicy crab, eel sauce, and tempura crunch. Specialty rolls were around $16 and spicy salmon around $9 when I went.

My thoughts on the food

Sunset Glow was A1. So much flavor from that sweet eel sauce, spicy crab that isn't too hot, and those crunchy tempura bits. It reminded me of a Shaggy Dog roll, and I'd get it again in a second.

The spicy salmon tasted fresh and solid. That's the roll I always use to get a feel for a sushi spot, and Miyabi delivered. The gyoza and rock shrimp were good too, but fried and pan-seared apps never get a fair shot in a takeout box. I'd like to try those at a table next time.

The verdict

The sushi was awesome, and Fitchburg needed this. I highly recommend it. Opening weekend was packed, so a weekday or an earlier dinner might be smoother while they settle in. I'm going back for more rolls.
