HERS Sushi Bar & Ramen

People drive out from Madison to HERS in Oregon for sushi, and now I get it. This might be one of my favorite sushi spots in the whole area.

And the ramen? Honestly, I think it's the best around Madison. No offense, but Madison ramen is usually mid. That miso broth changed the conversation for me.

What we ordered

We started with Flame Kiss, spicy crab wrapped in salmon with sauce in the bowl, plus chicken and vegetable gyoza. My wife got miso ramen, my father-in-law went for tonkatsu ramen, and I got the HERS roll with spicy salmon and a dragon roll.

My thoughts on the food

Flame Kiss had the perfect kick, and those pan-seared gyoza were exactly how gyoza should be. Both were amazing. My wife's miso ramen was phenomenal, especially that broth. The tonkatsu ramen was really good too.

The HERS roll had just the right spicy salmon heat, nothing overkill. The dragon roll's sweet glaze hit every time. Really good sushi from start to finish.

Inside, the green walls and big mural give it a cool feel, and there are patio tables when the weather is good. The staff was incredibly nice, which lines up with what people have been saying about this women-owned spot.

The verdict

I left thinking HERS is one of my favorite sushi spots near Madison, and I'd make the drive back for the ramen alone. If you haven't been, this is your sign.
