El Gran Taco Gato

This taco place right outside of Madison is one of the best hidden gem taco spots you can get your hands on, and these are hands down some of the best tacos you can get right now. It is El Gran Taco Gato in Fitchburg, hidden at the end of a little strip mall.

The vibe

This place is awesome. You walk inside and there are tons of desserts, groceries you can get, and tons of different seating. Churros, tostadas, burritos, elote. Honestly it feels like everything you can think of when it comes to Mexican food is here. There is a liquor store right next to it and a Hispanic grocery store right next door too.

What I ordered

An al pastor taco, a chicken taco, and a steak taco, all on double corn tortillas. Of course I put some lime on top of all of them and added hot sauce. The tacos are $4 each, and for all three I spent around $13 after tax.

My thoughts on the food

Steak taco first. Oh boy, they smell great. Those tortillas are great, and that hot sauce is actually making this taco. The steak is really good as well, but it does not feel like there is a crazy amount of seasoning on it. It goes really well with the hot sauce and the corn tortillas.

Then the al pastor. That is one of the better al pastor tacos I have had. So much flavor. Big fan. That is a great al pastor taco.

Last was the chicken taco. Sometimes when you get chicken tacos at a more authentic place, the chicken can lack flavor. This does not lack flavor at all. It paired really nice even without sauce and no cilantro. Delicious.

The verdict

Before you go, call ahead. I tried to come the day before and they were catering, and there was no way to find out unless you called, so call and see if they are cooking and have food available. But El Gran Taco Gato in Fitchburg, highly recommend. Those tacos were great, and keep dropping your taco recommendations so I can keep trying them out.
