Bavaria Sausage
Bavaria Sausage in Fitchburg is one of my favorite lunch spots around Madison
6317 Nesbitt Rd, Fitchburg, WI
This is hands down one of my favorite lunch spots in the entire Madison area, but there is a catch. It is only on Fridays from 11 to 2, and only during the summer. This is Bavaria Sausage in Fitchburg, and every Friday in the summer, assuming the weather is good, they do a brat and hot dog cookout.

A little backstory
Bavaria has been there for over 50 years. The original owner was first generation here in the States, born in Germany. Recently there has been new management and new ownership, and in my opinion that has not changed this brat lunch whatsoever.
What I ordered
- Cajun brat
- Smoked brat
- Cooler Ranch Doritos
My thoughts on the food
Look, I did throw ketchup on mine. I know I am going to ruffle some feathers, but it was so good. I personally think the Cajun brat is by far my favorite. It has this light spice to it, it is juicy, it is thick, and when you bite into it there is a ton of flavor that hits you all at once. Absolutely delicious.
The smoked brat was really good as well. The skin is a lot different, thicker, snappier and crispier. I like the spice on the Cajun brat a little more, but my last bite on the smoked brat had so much char on it, and I am a massive fan of that. It just simmers and crunches in your mouth.
Important and interesting info
- Get yourself lunch for under 10 bucks.
- Dress up your brats with spicy mustard, ketchup, sauerkraut and all that fun stuff. Chips and soda are available too.
- If you have never been in the store, go. Great cheese, sausage and meats, and a very cool little shop.
The verdict
Grab a soda, sit down at a picnic table outside on a beautiful day and enjoy an incredible lunch. Hands down one of my favorite lunch spots. You can probably catch me there almost every single Friday in the summer.
