Village Bar

The Village Bar Brick Burger is a simple Madison classic done really well

3801 Mineral Point Rd, Madison, WI

Supposedly this is one of the best cheeseburgers around, and there is a lot of cool history to this place as well. This is the Village Bar off Mineral Point Road in Madison. Small little bar, old school menu, old school bar. The whole place was a vibe.

A little backstory

As the story goes, when Jerry Seinfeld had a performance at the Overture Center in 2005, he hopped in his limo and said take me to the best cheeseburger, and they brought him here. The building itself was built in the early 1900s, and I believe it was moved in the 1940s from Cross Plains to where it sits now on Mineral Point Road. It was moved by a team of horses, which is crazy in itself.

What I ordered

  • Brick Burger with Lawry's
  • Fries

My thoughts on the food

Super basic here, with a very soft bun. They did not have jalapenos, and you know how I like my jalapenos, but they had Lawry's, so I had them add that. Lawry's is good.

The fries had the perfect amount of salt. Light crunch on the outside, very soft in the middle. These are just your standard fries, but they are done incredibly well. Huge fan.

The brick cheese definitely stands out in the flavor of the burger. That is what steals the show. I think the patty could have been a little more salty, but the bun is perfect, really soft. It is a very simple burger, but that brick cheese gives it a unique flavor. It is not big, it is done well, and it is the perfect size lunch burger.

Important and interesting info

  • Burger and fries were 13 bucks when I went, my cheapest burger and fry combo yet.
  • They are known for the Brick Burger, so get the brick cheese on it.
  • Do not expect crazy fancy specialty combo burgers. You are getting a simple burger done really, really well.

The verdict

That was a great burger and I am really glad I had it. Village Bar on Mineral Point Road in Madison. While you are there, have a drink. That was one of the most Wisconsin bars I have ever walked into, and it was a great bar.
