Petra Bakery & Restaurant

Petra's chicken shawarma bowl on Odana Road was exactly what I wanted

6119 Odana Rd, Madison, WI

I went to Petra off Odana Road, a restaurant and bakery that serves Middle Eastern and Mediterranean food. I got a saj chicken shawarma wrap and a chicken shawarma bowl, and we ate them both.

What I ordered

Saj chicken shawarma wrap with fries, two chicken shawarma bowls, garlic sauce, and a side of hot sauce. I also ordered baklava, but it did not make it into the to go bag. Mistakes happen. All of it came to about 50 bucks.

My thoughts on the food

Started with a fry. Some of them have this yellow seasoning on them and I do not know what it is, but it is unbelievable. A little tangy and a little salty. I usually go Cajun fries in my reviews, but not at a Middle Eastern spot. These fries are incredible.

Saj is just very thin bread. With the garlic sauce, that wrap is pretty tasty. They said the wrap is the most popular item, but two bites into the bowl I think the bowl is better. Tastes a little more fresh. I added the hot sauce, kind of a red chili paste, and it has a kick.

The chicken is seasoned really well and the yellow rice is incredible. I thought I was not going to like the pickled vegetables, but they give it a great balance. Big portion too. You can sub the garlic sauce for tzatziki if you want.

The vibe

Pretty neat little place in a shopping center off Odana. Bakery case right when you walk in, you order there, and there is seating to the left. It was busy and a lot of people were coming in and out with to go orders.

The verdict

This absolutely hit the spot. If you want pretty authentic Middle Eastern and Mediterranean food, Petra Bakery & Restaurant on Odana Road is your spot. Go check it out.
