AzTec Taqueria in Verona is worth it for the steak taco and green salsa

160 Keenan Ct, Suite 5, Verona, WI

I was told that I needed to try these tacos, so here we are at AzTec Taqueria in Verona. Al pastor and steak were recommended to me, and I added a queso birria taco just because.

What I ordered

An al pastor taco, a steak taco, and a queso birria taco. They gave me multiple salsas, including a spicy smoky red one and a green one, plus lime.

My thoughts on the food

First impression, the smell is amazing. The al pastor was fine. On the first bite the pineapple overpowered the pork and the sauce a bit. Tortillas taste really fresh, but the seasoning was not quite strong enough for me. Good taco, not bad, just not blowing me away.

The green salsa is really good. I kind of just drank it. I loaded it onto the steak taco and that was way better than the pastor. Like a perfect pair. I would come back for this taco.

The queso birria is by far the messiest. First bite squirted all the juices right into my mouth. Really good and meat heavy. It makes the tortilla a little soggy, but the melted cheese crunches into the tortilla so it still has some crunch.

The vibe

I ate these in the car, which is a big mistake with birria. Not just a taco spot either, they do burritos, bowls, quesadillas, a lot of different things.

The verdict

I will be back for tacos and might try a bowl next time. Get the steak with green salsa and the queso birria. To the people that recommended this place, thank you. AzTec Taqueria in Verona, go check it out.
